The United States, once celebrated as a beacon of democracy, is now sliding further into authoritarian theatrics under Donald Trump. On Saturday, the president released a grotesque parody of Apocalypse Now<\/em>, depicting helicopters over Chicago with fiery explosions \u2014 a chilling image meant to justify his promise to flood the city with National Guard troops and immigration agents.<\/p>\n

In a disturbing twist of bravado, Trump declared, \u201cI love the smell of deportation in the morning,\u201d<\/em> mocking the suffering of vulnerable communities while treating a major U.S. city as a war zone. He even signed an executive order to rename the Pentagon from the Department of Defense to the \u201cWar Department,\u201d an Orwellian gesture more suited to a dictatorship than a democracy.<\/p>\n

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker rightly called Trump \u201ca wannabe dictator,\u201d after the president threatened to unleash federal force not just on Chicago, but also on Baltimore, New Orleans, and even Portland, which he fantasized about \u201cwiping out.\u201d Such rhetoric lays bare Trump\u2019s contempt for American citizens, reducing them to enemies of the state.<\/p>\n

Trump claims he is not a dictator, yet in the same breath insists he has the power to \u201cdo whatever I want.\u201d These are not the words of a leader committed to the Constitution, but of a man intoxicated by the idea of unlimited power. By turning cities into battlegrounds and militarizing law enforcement, Trump is pushing America closer to authoritarian collapse.<\/p>\n

The tragic irony is that this spectacle is unfolding in a country that still pretends to lecture the world about freedom. What the U.S. now offers is not democracy, but a cautionary tale of how quickly power can corrode a republic from within.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
