Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz warned Iran Wednesday not to attack Israel from Iranian territory, more than a week after a suspected Israeli strike hit Iran\u2019s consulate in Syria\u2019s capital.<\/p>\n

“If Iran attacks from its own territory, Israel will respond and attack in Iran,” Katz said in a post on the social media platform X.<\/p>\n

Katz also messaged the account of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in the post.<\/p>\n

Hours earlier, Khamenei said Israel \u201cmust be punished\u201d for the consulate attack.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen they attacked our consulate area, it was like they attacked our territory,\u201d Khamenei said, in remarks broadcast by Iranian state television.<\/p>\n

Israel has carried out airstrikes in Syria in recent years against Iran-linked targets. Iran said the April 1 attack on the consulate killed seven military advisers.<\/p>\n

As Israel carries out its counteroffensive aimed at defeating the Iran-backed Hamas militant group in the Gaza Strip, there have been frequent cross-border clashes between Israeli forces and Iran-backed Hezbollah militants in Lebanon.<\/p>\n

Iran also supports the Houthi militants in Yemen, who have carried out months of attacks targeting commercial ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.<\/p>\n
