Chris Sutton has hit out at the \u2018unfair\u2019 criticism of Oleksandr Zinchenko and says the defender is being used as a \u2018scapegoat\u2019 during Arsenal\u2019s recent wobble.<\/p>\n

This time last week Arsenal were one win away from the semi-finals of the Champions League and tipped by many to win their first Premier League in 20 years.<\/p>\n

But Mikel Arteta\u2019s side now find themselves out of Europe following a quarter-final defeat to Bayern Munich and two points behind Manchester City in the Premier League title race.<\/p>\n

Arsenal suffered a rare defeat in the league last weekend, losing 2-0 at home to Aston Villa, and Zinchenko attracted much of the criticism following the match.<\/p>\n

The Ukrainian was subjected to some jeers as he was subbed off in the closing stages and Arsenal legend David Seaman claimed he \u2018put everyone on edge\u2019 with his performance.<\/p>\n

But Sutton believes the criticism of Zinchenko is \u2018unfair\u2019 and says he has emerged as a \u2018scapegoat\u2019 during Arsenal\u2019s difficult run.<\/p>\n

Asked if some of the criticism aimed at Zinchenko has been unfair, Sutton said on the It\u2019s All Kicking Off! podcast: \u2018Yeah, it is. I can\u2019t stand things like this actually.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2018But in the history of football there\u2019s always been scapegoats, someone to blame. Someone has to take the blame for Arsenal\u2019s poor form.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2018I\u2019m not going to say all Arsenal fans, but they can be quite a strange bunch. I mean, there were Arsenal fans who didn\u2019t bother to stay until the end of the game.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2018They\u2019re very, very, very reactive, aren\u2019t they. They should remember that they\u2019ve\u00a0had a good season.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n
