Manchester United have announced the appointment of Jason Wilcox as the club\u2019s technical director.<\/p>\n

Wilcox, 53, stepped down from his role as Southampton\u2019s director of football earlier this month and takes over the reins at Old Trafford with immediate effect.<\/p>\n

The 53-year-old\u2019s appointment is part of a major overhaul at the Theatre of Dreams, following on from Sir Jim Ratcliffe\u2019s \u00a31.3million partial takeover back in February.<\/p>\n

The Red Devils confirmed in an official statement that Wilcox would be \u2018working with all technical areas of the football department to achieve the highest standards of performance\u2019.<\/p>\n

Before his time with Southampton, Wilcox \u2013 a former Premier League winner with Blackburn Rovers \u2013 worked as the academy director with United\u2019s neighbours Manchester City.<\/p>\n

The Saints said that they \u2018reluctantly agreed\u2019 to allow Wilcox complete a switch from the south coast to the north west in a short statement on their website.<\/p>\n

\u2018Whilst the club is naturally disappointed that Jason\u2019s stay at Southampton has only lasted nine months, it wishes him well for the future,\u2019 the statement read.<\/p>\n

\u2018The club will continue to work closely with Russell Martin and his back-room team to ensure they have all the support they require moving forwards.\u2019<\/p>\n

It had been widely reported that there had been a dispute over the terms of Wilcox\u2019s release at St Mary\u2019s, with United confident they had got their man after offering what amounted to a year of his salary.<\/p>\n

But the Championship club were less than impressed, denying the existence of any clause which would allow Wilcox to leave the club for Old Trafford.<\/p>\n
