Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has vowed to \u2018learn from his mistakes\u2019 after his moment of madness allowed Spurs back into this weekend\u2019s north London derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.<\/p>\n

The Gunners held an imperious three-goal lead over their bitter rivals at the halfway stage as Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz both found the target following Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg\u2019s own goal in the 15th minute.<\/p>\n

But Raya handed Spurs a lifeline with half an hour remaining as he inexplicably dinked the ball straight to Cristian Romero, who made no mistake from the edge of the box to give the hosts a glimmer of hope.<\/p>\n

Son Heung-min held his nerve from the spot to set up a tense finish \u2013 after Declan Rice fouled Ben Davies inside the penalty area \u2013 but the Gunners withstood a flurry of late attacks to preserve their narrow advantage and come away 3-2 winners.<\/p>\n

The result put pressure on Manchester City ahead of the champions\u2019 clash with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, where Pep Guardiola\u2019s side duly responded to move to within a point of the leaders.<\/p>\n

Last year\u2019s treble winners have a game in hand over Arsenal ahead of their meeting with 11th-placed Wolves at the Etihad next weekend.<\/p>\n

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta defended Raya over his second-half error and praised the shot-stopper for his \u2018sensational\u2019 reaction to the blunder.<\/p>\n

\u2018It\u2019s part of football,\u2019 Arteta told reporters when asked about Raya\u2019s mistake that led to Romero\u2019s goal.<\/p>\n

\u2018It\u2019s a sequence of play, I don\u2019t like it, I don\u2019t like the principles that we apply in that moment and the orientation of the ball.<\/p>\n

\u2018After that, that can happen, you misjudge the situation, you try to make the pass and you don\u2019t and you are in doubt. They scored to take advantage of that.<\/p>\n

\u2018The penalty is another principle inside the box that you cannot do. It\u2019s part of football.<\/p>\n

\u2018What I love is that David does that [the mistake], he picks Gabriel Magalhaes up \u2013 that is quite heavy! \u2013 and then he was sensational in the last 20 to 25 minutes of the game.<\/p>\n

In a post-match interview with Sky Sports, Raya argued that mistakes were \u2018just part of football\u2019 but reassured Arsenal fans that he would learn from the experience.<\/p>\n

\u2018I\u2019ve learned from making mistakes. If you don\u2019t make mistakes, you don\u2019t learn. It\u2019s part of football, everybody makes mistakes,\u2019 Raya said.<\/p>\n

\u2018But the thing is, when the \u2018keeper makes a mistake, is normally it is a goal and it\u2019s more seen, more talked [about] compared to a striker missing a tap-in or whatever.<\/p>\n

\u2018But it\u2019s just part of football and you learn from that, that\u2019s the most important thing. You just learn from the mistakes.\u2019<\/p>\n
