Premier League icon Sergio Aguero claims Frank Lampard pleaded with the Chelsea board to sign him around 18 months before he joined Manchester City in 2011.<\/p>\n Aguero burst onto the scene in the late 2000s, announcing himself as one of the most sought-after young attackers on the planet with 101 goals in 234 games for Atletico Madrid. <\/p>\n Atleti managed to fend off Europe\u2019s elite and keep hold of Aguero until the summer of 2011 when they reached a \u00a335million agreement with City, where he would go on to cement his place as one the greatest players in the club\u2019s history.<\/p>\n Aguero\u2019s phenomenal tally of 260 goals puts him head and shoulders above the rest on City\u2019s all-time leading scoring charts, with Raheem Sterling sitting second on that list \u2013 129 goals behind the Argentinian.<\/p>\n He also scored arguably the most famous goal in the history of the English top flight, which came in the 94th minute as City beat QPR to clinch the 2011-12 Premier League trophy \u2013 the first of five league titles would win in Manchester.<\/p>\n But Aguero has revealed his story could have turned out very differently in a parallel universe had Lampard got his way back in 2010 \u2013 after the legendary ex-Chelsea midfielder came up against him in the Champions League group stage.<\/p>\n A young Aguero started on the bench at the Wanda Metropolitano as Chelsea met Atletico in November 2009, but put the hosts with a thunderous volley, shortly after replacing Florent Sinama Pongolle in the second half.<\/p>\n Didier Drogba looked to have won it for Chelsea with a quickfire brace before Aguero curled in a late 25-yard free-kick to deny the visitors victory.<\/p>\n Asked whether Chelsea ever had a chance of signing him following that 2-2 draw in Madrid, Aguero told The Club YouTube channel: \u2018Yeah, yeah, yeah! <\/p>\n \u2018After that game, maybe two months after, my agent said to me, \u201cChelsea are interested\u201d.<\/p>\n \u2018I had just three years at Atletico Madrid. I mean, I loved the Premier League, to play there, but Chelsea were never interested after.
