{"id":8788,"date":"2024-05-11T16:13:34","date_gmt":"2024-05-11T16:13:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/internationalpulse.net\/?p=8788"},"modified":"2024-05-11T16:13:34","modified_gmt":"2024-05-11T16:13:34","slug":"john-lundstram-slammed-for-madness-red-card-in-rangers-defeat-to-celtic-football","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/internationalpulse.net\/?p=8788","title":{"rendered":"John Lundstram slammed for &#8216;madness&#8217; red card in Rangers defeat to Celtic | Football"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<figure class=\" img-container shareable-item wp-caption\" style=\"max-width:540px\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n<a rel=\"nofollow\" id=\"share-item-20820523-686\" class=\"anchor\"\/><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"sync\" width=\"644\" height=\"429\" data-rsz=\"shrink\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/GettyImages-1618912556.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;zoom=1&amp;resize=644%2C429\" alt=\"Rangers v PSV Eindhoven - UEFA Champions Qualifying Play-Off: First Leg\" class=\"wp-image-20820523\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/>\n<\/div><figcaption>John Lundstram had a disastrous afternoon at Celtic Park (Picture: Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>John Lundstram\u2019s red card in Rangers\u2019 defeat to Celtic on Saturday afternoon was labelled \u2018madness\u2019 on a day to forget for the Englishman.<\/p>\n<p>Celtic won the game 2-1 and are now on the verge of winning the Scottish Premiership, six points clear of Rangers with two games to play.<\/p>\n<p>However, they were given a helping hand by their opponents, and specifically Lundstram, who scored an own goal and was shown a red card before half-time.<\/p>\n<p>Matt O\u2019Riley gave Celtic the lead and Lundstram\u2019s calamitous own goal seemed to put the home side in a very strong position.<\/p>\n<p>Cyriel Dessers headed Rangers back into contention on 40 minutes but a ridiculous lunge from Lundstram on Alistair Johnston left Celtic with 10 players for the entire second half.<\/p>\n<p>Former Celtic boss Neil Lennon had sympathy for the Rangers manager, who he felt would be fuming with Lundstram for the \u2018madness\u2019 he displayed.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018If I\u2019m Philippe Clement, I\u2019m absolutely raging, 100 per cent,\u2019 Lennon told Sky Sports. \u2018He\u2019s an experienced player. <\/p>\n<div class=\"metro-embed__twitter\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-conversation=\"all\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u00f0\u009f\u009f\u00a5 \u201cThat\u2019s never a red card!\u201d<br \/>\u00f0\u009f\u0097\u00a3\u00ef\u00b8\u008f \u201cHe\u2019s out of control there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>John Lundstram was sent off after a VAR check. It\u2019s madness.\u2019<\/p>\n<aside class=\"post-strip trending-post-strip\" data-nosnippet=\"\" data-vars-type=\"trending-post-strip\" data-track-module=\"trending-post-strip_article\">\n<h3 class=\"zopo-more\">More Trending<br \/>\n<\/h3>\n<p>Read More Stories<\/aside>\n<p>Clement remained pretty measured after the game but admitted that the red card cost the team and he did not expect to see that kind of decision from an experienced player.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It makes a massive difference, of course,\u2019 he said. \u2018Lunny will be the first one to know that, but it\u2019s decision making, wrong decision making in that moment. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018He knows. But I don\u2019t forget all the good things he did the last couple of months for the team and the last couple of years for the club.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018So everybody makes mistakes, you don\u2019t expect from an experienced guy that mistake in this game but it is what it is and we have to move forward now.\u2019<\/p>\n<figure class=\" img-container shareable-item wp-caption\" style=\"max-width:540px\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"540\" height=\"360\" data-rsz=\"shrink\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/GettyImages-2152440768.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;zoom=1&amp;resize=540%2C360\" alt=\"Celtic FC v Rangers FC - Cinch Scottish Premiership\" class=\"wp-image-20820525\"\/>\n<\/div><figcaption>Brendan Rodgers is on the brink of a Scottish Premiership title with Celtic (Picture: Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was actually a bit frustrated that his team did not press home their advantage further, with a nervy ending to the contest.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We made the game really tense at the end when there was no need for it to be,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We\u2019re not over the line yet, but we\u2019re in a great place. We need to recover and look to finish the job on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It\u2019s always the best team that wins after 38 games.
