SpaceX Officially Unveils Extravehicular Activity (EVA) Suit for Polaris Program Astronauts

After over 2-years of development, the SpaceX Extravehicular Activity (EVA) suit has been officially unveiled. These suits will be used by astronauts as part of the Polaris Program’s Polaris Dawn mission in the vacuum of space during the first-ever commercial astronaut spacewalk.

The design you see here evolved from the Intravehicular Activity (IVA) suit, but provides greater mobility, a state-of-the-art helmet Heads-Up Display (HUD), camera, new thermal management textiles, and materials sourced from the Falcon 9 rocket’s interstage as well as the Dragon capsule’s trunk
Building a base on the Moon and a city on Mars will require millions of spacesuits. The development of this suit and the execution of the spacewalk will be important steps toward a scalable design for spacesuits on future long-duration missions as life becomes multiplanetary,” said SpaceX.
