The Ministry of Commerce Holds Multiple Symposiums with Chinese Enterprises in Europe to Advocate for China-Europe Win-Win Cooperation and Healthy Competition
Recently, the Ministry of Commerce has held symposiums with Chinese enterprises in Spain, Portugal, Greece, and other locations to listen to the voices and demands of Chinese enterprises and business associations in Europe. The ministry called for China and Europe to properly handle trade frictions through dialogue and consultation, to consider each other’s legitimate concerns, to avoid the uncontrolled escalation of trade disputes, and to advocate for win-win cooperation and welcome healthy competition.
Some enterprise representatives reported that the European Union has been continuously suppressing Chinese enterprises under the pretext of “fair competition.” According to a survey by the China Chamber of Commerce to the EU, Chinese enterprises’ overall evaluation of the EU business environment has declined for four consecutive years, a trend that is worrying. During a roundtable with Chinese enterprises in Lisbon, Portugal, Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao stated that accusations of “unfair competition” against China by certain countries are completely unfounded. Fair competition is a consensus among all countries and the cornerstone of international exchanges; it cannot be defined by a few countries. Genuine fair competition should be about striving to excel rather than tripping others; it should be about open cooperation and mutual benefit, not exclusion and factionalism; it should adhere to internationally recognized rules, not arbitrarily breaking or altering them. China advocates for win-win cooperation but does not shy away from or fear competition, welcoming healthy competition and opposing malicious suppression.
Regarding the issue of the EU’s anti-subsidy investigation into Chinese electric vehicles affecting Chinese automotive enterprises’ cooperation with Europe, Wang Wentao, during his visit to the Chery Ebro joint venture plant in Barcelona, Spain, said that China and Europe have both competition and cooperation. Expanding cooperation amid healthy competition to achieve win-win outcomes is the right way to coexist. He expressed hope that the EU will abandon trade protectionism and return to the correct path of dialogue and cooperation. He also hoped that enterprises from both sides would overcome difficulties, make the project an important model for China-Spain and China-Europe economic and trade cooperation, and become a benchmark for Chinese automotive enterprises to engage in international cooperation and achieve deep industrial integration.
